Rich on August 17th, 2008

I wanted to take a small break from recounting my journey and see how my readers lives are going.  I haven’t spoken to a lot of you in a long time and would like to know what’s been going on.  Just to put it out there, I’m always up for a Skype call if anyone wants to catch up.  I know, Skype works both ways, and I apologize for not taking the initiative to contact you all in awhile.  I think I needed some “me” time to get myself back on the rails.

  1. Have felt much the same thing - first little desire to speak to others, then an increasing desire to contact everyone again.

Am up for a call! Am 5 hours ahead of you time-wise, though, and usually go to bed by midnight. However, at the weekend is always a good time, and especially so next weekend, as it’s a long weekend.

Looking forward to speaking with you both, and anyone else we can rope into the call!

  2. Yes, weekends are probably best. I sent you an e-mail so let me know.

*crickets* It’s quiet around here… wonder why?

  3. Hey, Rich.

I guess if I am going to update you on my life, I can pretty much do it in one word: Tricking.

We’ve been doing shows practically every weekend for the whole summer, getting our names out there. We have not made a great deal of money this year–the plan is to hopefully start getting some better paid stuff next summer. I guess the biggest three show sponsors we’ve had are Calvin Klein, Animal, and Relentless.

We’ve also been competing at some pretty big street dance events alongside a dance crew (who we also do shows with), in which we’ve placed fairly highly (which is another good way to get noticed–one of the guys we dance/train with actually got a three month job working in Hawaii off the back of the biggest of these competitions).

Summer break is nearly over and the new semester will start next month, which I am also looking forward to.

Over the winter the plan is to tighten up and move the show routine’s to the next level, as well as working on a stage show being produced by a production company for March 2009. Oh and also Uni of course, haha.

Then there’s the underground side of Tricking. Keepin’ it real, lololololo. But seriously, I’ve travelled to a lot of gatherings this year, including what is probably the biggest one in Europe in Bergen, Norway, where I met some of the best trickers in the world (the people I looked up to and drew inspiration from when I first started). Suffice it to say I was not disappointed upon meeting them in person.

Overall, I have had and am having the best time of my life, meeting amazing people and doing the thing I love most. :)

  4. Sounds like a lot of fun James. Do you have any videos?

  5. We’re going to work on our official showreel using footage from shows we’ve done, among other stuff, at around the end of the year.

As far as underground samplers go… hard to say–there are videos with us in being released all the time.

  6. It sounds like we’ve been doing the same thing Rich. Being away from FDR has caused a lot of emotions to surface which I’m trying very hard to work through and feel through without making up stories about them and going to others and my impulses to get a “fix”. Life is feeling better each day, I am so glad this is the same case for you.
