My mother actually read the book around ´75 and changed a lot of her mothering strategies. That was very good for my sister and me, and I am grateful for that. But she failed to look into her own abusive relationship with her parents, which had eventually emotionally very damaging consequences for both of us children. I think she sensed that the changes that would have become obviously necessary were huge, and she was unconsciously choosing to avoid this knowledge. Now I am in therapy again to clear up several issues that previous therapies did not solve.

James, I think they avoid information on purpose. To explore your emotions about your childhood is extremely hard. Especially when 99.9% of people are surrounded by other people who think that it is wrong to explore emotions.

It amazes me just how uneducated a lot of parents are. You'd think they'd do a little research before the child is born.
